Upper, middle, and lower atmosphere coupling
|
The middle atmosphere is influenced by the
energy transfer from both above and below. The
former is caused by solar wind-magnetosphere
interaction, and the latter originates from
disturbances in the lower atmosphere and is
carried by the upward propagation of atmospheric
waves. The coupling processes in these
atmospheric regions are studied by measuring the
wind and temperature fields, and the minor
atmospheric constituents using advanced optical
instruments (Fabry-Perot imager, aurora
spectrograph, lidar), radars (EISCAT, meteor wind
radar, MF radar, HF radar) and stratospheric
balloons, as well as numerical analyses and
computer simulations.
